The Circus was all young Joe knew. Son of a lion-tamer and the third generation of a circus family, he became a veteran bareback rider by the time he reached the age of 15. But, that year, Joe became an orphan and his life was about to change. He was sent away to an industrial school while the law debated whether or not Mo Shapely, a clown, was a fit enough guardian for him. Meanwhile, the circus moved on. Joe ran away from the school and into the farm life of the Dawson family who took him in. Mistrustful at first, Joe finds peace with farm life.
