In the second essay, new data collection by ECLS has become available; allowing us to extend the analysis of the 'Boy crisis, ' to fifth grade. We find that white boys gain ground in math across the entire distribution over the first six years of school; black and Hispanic boys gain ground in select parts of the distribution. In addition, we find that low (high) achieving boys lose (gain) ground in reading over the first six years of school.
