The last essay departs from the traditional revenue-based modeling and looks at the profitability. The study is grounded in the resource based view of the firm and offers a hierarchical cross-classified model where in addition of movie-specific variables, profitability is linked to the production studio and the distributor. The results indicate that both production studio and distributor effects are significant in explaining profitability.
