Two research questions were developed to guide this study by the thematic dissertation group comprised of 10 doctoral students from the University of Southern California. Data was collected in the form of documents review, interviews, surveys, and observations. Triangulation using Marzano's (2003) five effective school-wide factors were utilized to compile and organize findings.In previous years, there were a great number of students who were not passing their Algebra I, Biology, or English I courses after the first quarter. ... The students are identified after their 8th grade year. ... During the first year of the program, 125 students were identified as having academic difficulty in intermediate school. ... School Survey of Student Engagement was given to a sample size of 100 students to solicit their answers about whether or not student engagement played a role 71.
